Quality Engineer

Description:
This is a technical engineering position responsible for supporting company quality system. Involved with tracking company procurement, internal processes, and customer delivered hardware. Using statics, monitors supplier incoming inspection quality and provides feedback to procurement. Provides weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on internal quality. Tracks quality of delivered hardware and all customer returns. Performs the actual material inspections. Participates on creation of all process exception documents (Corrective Action Requests, Deviation Waivers, Non-Conforming Reports) and tracks them until they are closed. This is a hands on position involved in manipulating data, creating documentation, overseeing calibration, and participating in supplier qualification.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Quality Responsibilities.
- Defines and drafts incoming inspection requirements (IQC specs)
- Performs IQCs and Oversees all Incoming Inspection functions
- Tracks and analyses RMAs to identify trends causing quality issues
- Initiates and tracks failure analysis of nonconforming products.
- Conducts vendor reviews and qualification, with or without the help from other departments.
- Works with procurement and manufacturing in new supplier qualification
- Works with Engineering in creating product documentation from components through shipping assembly
- Helps to improve work instructions and procedures in production, including translating them into Chinese.
- Works with manufacturing to implement supplier Corrective Action.
- Oversees all equipment calibration
- Writes program quality plans
- Works with engineering to define quality assurance criteria on software
- Holds meetings as required on assigned projects and tasks
- Supports ISO 9001:2008 system
- Supports good health and safety practices
- Manages Component qualification process
- Establishes applicable control charts
- Supports supplier certification program
- Supports other departments as required
- Participates in proposals, review customer statements of work, and support the sales department as needed
- Supports procurement and finance departments with supplier issues
- Other duties as assigned by Management

Requirement:
- BS in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, electrical engineering, or Material Science. MS in statistics or equivalent experience.
- Two to five years total experience in manufacturing and quality with at least one year working as a quality engineer. Must have exposure and some experience in at least two of the following areas:
1. Semiconductor processes, test, packaging
2. Optical fabrication and test
3. Mechanical part fabrication and measurement (CMM, etc.)
4. Fiber optic components production
5. PCB fabrication , assembly, test
6. Small precision mechanical part production; stamping, etching, embossing

Ideal candidate would have experience working in a small to medium company environment.
Must be experienced using word-processing, presentation, and spreadsheets. Should have some software analysis experience: MiniTab, SciPy, etc. Must have hands-on experience with measurement, test, and gauging equipment. Must be able to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics. Good speaking and written communication skills mandatory. Must have presentation skills of a level sufficient to conduct meeting and reviews within the company, with outside suppliers, and customer presentations.

Approximately 25% of work is performed in an office environment. Remainder is spent at various locations including the engineering labs, assembly floor, and at vendors sites. There is some potential for some travel, with trips lasting from one to five days each.
