Description:
Researches, designs, develops and implements computer software solutions in conjunction with hardware product development, by performing the following duties:

RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS:
- Analyzes software requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints.
- Contributes to software development requirements, process definition and improvements.
- Consults with firmware and hardware engineers and other engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall system.
- Formulates, designs and codes software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design.
- Works with Documentation department to ensure accurate documentation of features.
- Consults with customers concerning maintenance of software systems and customer requirements.
- Coordinates installation of software system both remotely and locally.
- Tests all aspects of implementation on bench and at system level; setup and test including sourcing equipment, setting up sonar equipment on bench, tank, or marine environment; setting up an configuring test equipment such as scopes, and following test plans to completion.
- Accommodates multiple simultaneous projects each with evolving requirements by properly managing and prioritizing project task lists.
- Assimilates new High Priority tasks within schedule and minimizes the effect on overall project completion schedule.

Requirement:
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university and 4-5 years experience in the field.

Mathematical and Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to demonstrate strong algebraic skills needed for software implementation.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Programming Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Design software and VS C++, C, Win32, MFC, Windows GDI, OpenGL, UNIX Development software, Source Control Applications. Knowledge and use of debugging tools such as BoundsChecker, PC-Lint are a plus. A general understanding of serial device communication and network communications is also essential. An understanding of Multithreading is required.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of test electronics as needed to perform system level testing of software features. This includes utilizing a scope, power supply, and other such devices typically found in an electronics development environment.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, type, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 pounds in the office, and up to 70 pounds in the field. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration, and conditions associated with being at sea. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet but can be quite noisy when working remotely or on a vessel.
